Graduate Certificate in Gerontological NursingCoordinator: Ruth Remington, PhD, ANP, GNP-BC
The Graduate Certificate in Gerontological Nursing is for post-baccalaureate nurses who want to expand their knowledge about issues related to nursing care of older adults.The certificate focuses on topics pertinent to the health care of well-older adults and those with chronic health problems. Content will include gerontological nursing theory, health promotion and preventive care, psychiatric and mental health issues in the older adult, palliative and end-of-life care, as well as pharmacological issues.
Students who complete this certificate are encouraged to apply for advanced practice role preparation as an Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, or Adult Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist through the The courses, Adult/Gerontological Nursing Theory I and Advanced Pharmacology, may be transferable to the Master’s Degree in Nursing Program with a grade of B or better. One course, either Palliative and End-of-Life Nursing Care or Geropsychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, may also be transferred as an elective to the Master’s Degree in Nursing Program with a grade of B or better.
