University of Massachusetts Lowell Nursing Faculty Member, Sarah Belisle has been recognized for participation in the New Faculty Institute for Gerontological Nursing.
North Andover resident co-authors book on seniors and mental health - Lawrence Eagle Tribune, December 19, 2010
Karen Devereaux Melillo, North Andover resident and UMass Lowell chair of nursing, has co-authored a new, one-of a kind book that combines the study of aging with that of psychiatric mental health.
"Geropsychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, Second Edition" addresses the knowledge and skills necessary in the assessment and nursing care of older adults experiencing common late life mental health and psychiatric problems. The text features experts in gerontological nursing and geropsychiatric fields and provides essential information for advanced practice and professional nurses in addition to graduate and undergraduate nursing students.
Miki Patterson Ph.D., APRN, ONP, has been selected for the Clara A. Donahoo Lectureship Award by the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (NAON) for her development of an Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Nurse Practitioner Post Master’s Certificate program at UMass Lowell. Chair of Nursing Karen Devereaux Melillo was awarded Fellow status with the Gerontological Society of America, through the Social Research, Policy and Practice Section. She was presented with the award at the annual Fellows Reception in November at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Gerontological Society of America in Atlanta, GA.
"Research Shows Vitamin/Nutraceutical Combination Improves Memory, Cognitive Performance"
A recent study presented at the Gerontological Society of America’s 62nd Annual Scientific Meeting shows that a combination of vitamins and nutriceuticals improves memory and cognitive performance in community-dwelling adults.
A team of researchers at the University of Massachusetts Lowell including by Dr. Ruth Remington made the discovery.
