Message from the President
Dear Eta Omega Chapter Members:
It is with great pleasure that I assume the role of President of our chapter. Lisa Abdallah has prepared me well for the role and promises to remain actively involved! Darcy Brewin was elected Undergraduate Counselor, and Celeste Tremblay was elected for another two year term as Treasurer. We also inducted three graduate students and a Community Leader. Allison Geissert, Class of 2010, received the Past Presidents Award.
The Fox Lecture, was held at Lowell General Hospital this past spring and was a wonderful event. Val King, Past President, spoke. The title of her presentation was Going Outside Your Comfort Zone: How to Have a Global Nursing Experience. Val and Eta Omega member Maura Norton have traveled to Ghana Africa as mentors for the University of Massachusetts Lowell Nursing Students Without Borders. Val and Maura have traveled with the students during two winter breaks (2009 and 2010). The students developed and presented education programs dealing with sexual health, clean water and dental care, to name a few. Eta Omega supported this initiative with supplies. This support fits well with Dr. Morin's call to action Connecting Knowledge Through Global Health.
Eta Omega will be adding two new awards this year, a Young Leader Award and a Service award. The Young Leader Award will be given to an individual who has joined Sigma Theta Tau within the past five years and has become an involved member through committee work, volunteering at events, or holding an office. This award will allow this individual to attend a Sigma Theta Tau meeting in the continental US as they continue to develop leadership skills. The Service Award will be given to an individualwho has demonstrated to extordinary service to an organization or cause. Look for information about how to nominate an individual for these awards over the next few months.
Save the date for our next event, the Founders Day Program, Thursday October 21, 2010. Celeste Tremblay Ed.D., RN, will be our speaker.
Welcome new inductees and new officers, thank you to all who continue to support and contribute to our Chapter. If you would like to become more actively involved contact me, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Until then, we hope you visit our chapter website to keep informed.
