- A structured 1 to 1 relationship/partnership that focuses on the needs of the student.
Why be a nursing mentor?

Responsibilities
- Initiate contact with his/her student within one week of assignment. If contacts have failed after three attempts, notify the BDN Coordinator of Diversity Support Services. (Note: Many students who say they need help also say they will not initiate searches for appropriate resources).
- Schedule a person-to-person contact.
- Follow-up with weekly phone or e-mail contacts.
- Monthly e-mail update to BDN Coordinator. Updates are due by the end of each month.
- Above all, be yourself. Try to end sessions on a positive note. Realize there are no failures in a mentorship. Both you and your student will learn as much from mistakes as from successes.
