The Center for Public Opinion will periodically sponsor political debates as part of its mission to promote civic engagement and an enhanced understanding of the political process.
First Democratic Primary Debate, October 4, 2011
On Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, the Center, Boston Herald and the UMass Lowell Political Science Club co-sponsored the first candidate debate for the 2012 democratic primary race for U.S. Senate.

Chancellor Marty Meehan, who represented Massachusetts’ 5th District in Congress for 14 years, moderated the debate. Questions for the candidates were taken from student panelists, a University focus group and Twitter and Facebook followers.
