Alcohol Sensing of Glycine-Coated Carbon Nanotubes

Young-Kyun Kwon, Physics

It is observed that glycine-coated single-walled carbon nanotube field-effect transistors (SWNT-FET) can be used as alcohol sensors. The original semiconducting glycine-coated SWNT changes to metallic in the presence of alcohol. To investigate the mechanism, structural and electronic properties of Glycine-coated nanotube with alcohol Isopropanol are calculated using ab initio method. Glycine-coated SWNT with other molecules e.g. acetone and water are studied as well.
