A Message from the Chief

The UMass Lowell Police Department is a full service police department with 30 sworn officers. Our officers receive municipal police academy training and have full authority to enforce the laws of the Commonwealth. Each officer attends an annual in-service training program as well as a host of specialized training programs. The UMass Lowell Police Department operates 24 hours per day. Besides patrol, we also conduct criminal investigations and provide crime prevention and educational services at the UMass Lowell campus. We have built a strong tradition of community policing and community outreach. We serve to engender and maintain a campus community wherein the students, faculty, staff and visitors view the members of the police department as their partners in public safety. To ensure that safety, significant investments have been made in technology and emergency notification systems.

Our objective is for you to achieve your educational goals in a safe and secure environment. Additionally, we appreciate the importance of cultural and social growth. Therefore, we provide resources to support activities like performances at the Tsongas Center, athletic events, cultural events and other events around campus.

Recognizing it takes a university community cooperation to have a safe environment, we believe every member of the campus has a shared responsibility for the safety of our community by reporting suspicious or criminal behavior to our office.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and feel free to contact our department for any questions you may have about campus safety.
