Dept. Staff Earn Honors for Investigations, Dedication

Jill GambonSeveral members of UMass Lowell’s Police Department were honored for accomplishments during the past year at the Department’s second annual awards ceremony.
Handed out on Jan. 17 at Police Department headquarters at University Crossing, the awards recognized excellence in community policing, administration, investigations and dedicated service. Recipients included Sgt. Steve Eramo, Sgt. Scott Childs, Officer Walter Nadeau, Officer Mike Holder, Detective Mike Soucy, Campus Security Officer Orlando Matos and Dispatcher Colin Trelegan.
Citizen awards were given to Trinity Emergency Medical Service emergency medical technicians Greg Pekarski and Tim Cunningham.
A New Campus Resource Officer
Brashears also announced the Police Liaison Program, under which officers will volunteer to pair up with student groups, dorm residents and sports teams to build relationships. Several officers have already signed on to participate.
The department is in the process of hiring another group of interns for the spring semester.
