Through the use of multimedia and a paper shack installation, artists Zehra Kahn and Tim Winn will bring their world of weasels to Lowell in October. Their collaborative exhibit, “The Weasel Problem,” will be installed in the University Gallery from Oct. 3 to 28.

The project started with an invitation to vacation in a Provincetown beach shack. With the lack of amenities and inspiring sand dune landscape, the shack should have been the perfect place to create. The only issue, they were told, was the “weasel problem.”

Instead of letting the animals get in their creative way, the artists took the opportunity to imagine what “weasel problems” may actually be in the animal world. Without “electricity, plumbing or couples counseling,” how do the mischievous mammals function? Living as weasels (in masks and painted pajamas) in the harsh sand dunes was their only way to find out.

The resulting film featuring the artists in weasel form and other artistic creations will be exhibited along with a paper recreation of the Provincetown shack that started the artists’ adventure. Kahn and Winn will be on campus Oct. 5, 3 to 5 p.m. for an artist talk and reception where they will answer any weasel problems art lovers may be having themselves.
