Wednesday, Dec. 10
6 to 9 p.m.

What: Television host, interior designer and UMass Lowell graduate Taniya Nayak – best known for her appearances on HGTV and the Food Network – will talk about her work, life at UMass Lowell, family and how she balances it all during an event for the campus and public.

Nayak will share design ideas for the holidays and everyday living during the program and take questions from the audience about home-improvement and interior-design projects. Proceeds from the event will help fund scholarships for UMass Lowell students.

Raised in Weymouth, Nayak earned a bachelor’s degree in business marketing from UMass Lowell and credits the university with teaching her the entrepreneurial skills that helped set her on her career path. She went on to receive a master’s degree in interior design.

Nayak soon became a familiar face on HGTV’s “FreeStyle” and “Designed to Sell.” As an interior designer on the Food Network’s “Restaurant Impossible” she transforms the décor of struggling businesses to rave reviews. Her success is on display at Boston hotspots such as Abby Lane, Back Bay Harry’s, Bostonia Public House, Petit Robert Central and many others, where her company, Taniya Nayak Design LLC, has created interior and exterior spaces.

Nayak also brings her talents to homes, counting Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and actor Jesse Metcalfe of “Desperate Housewives” and “Dallas” among her clients. Her work has been featured in People magazine, Cosmopolitan, Architectural Digest India and Design New England.

Where: University Crossing, Moloney Hall, Second Floor, 220 Pawtucket St., Lowell. Contact UMass Lowell media relations for directions and parking information.
