Program Focuses on Community, Industry Partnerships, City’s Economy

What: A dozen Irish elected officials, along with business and economic policy leaders will meet with UMass Lowell and city representatives to see and experience how the university has helped fuel the city’s evolution from an industrial pioneer to a high-technology hub of innovation and culturally rich destination.
Among the visitors will be members of Irish Parliament, mayors of several communities and a variety of policymakers from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The group will learn about UMass Lowell’s cultural and economic partnerships with the city and the work of the Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (M2D2) at UMass Lowell, which provides inventors and entrepreneurs easy, affordable and coordinated access to world-class researchers and resources at UMass Lowell and UMass Worcester.
Speakers are scheduled to include Frank Talty, co-director of UMass Lowell’s Center for Irish Partnerships; Prof. Stephen McCarthy, co-director of M2D2 and the Center for Irish Partnerships; and Paul Marion, UMass Lowell’s executive director of community and cultural affairs.
The Irish delegation’s visit is hosted by UMass Lowell’s Center for Irish Partnerships in collaboration with the Center for Irish Programs at Boston College.
