Nursing Celebrates 35 Years
Philanthropy Day Conference

Nursing Celebrates 35 Years 
When:   Friday, May 18, 6 to 9 p.m.
Where:   Vesper Country Club, Tyngsboro
What:    The UMass Lowell Department of Nursing will celebrate 35 years of nursing excellence.  Alumni, friends and faculty will honor the contributions nurses make each day, while also supporting the department’s commitment to nursing education and recruitment into the profession.

The event marks three milestones for the program:  35 years of the bachelor of science degree; 30 years of the master of science degree; and 10 years of the doctorate of philosophy degree.

Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased by contacting Elaine Dalton at 978-934-3689.

Philanthropy Day Conference
When:   Tuesday, May 22, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where:   The Doubletree Hotel, Lowell
What:    The 11th-Annual Philanthropy Day Conference is presented by the Greater Lowell Community Foundation.  The theme this year is “A Bridge to Tomorrow: Visioning the Future of Philanthropy, Nonprofits and Community Service.” Several speakers will discuss topics relevant to this theme, including Alan Khazei, co-founder of the Americorps program City Year, and Steve Gunderson, the nation’s foremost spokesperson on philanthropy and president of the Washington, D.C.-based Council on Foundations.

In addition, there will be a panel of local experts speaking on “service learning,” led by Dr. Nicole Champagne of UML, who will explain how student volunteers are filling important needs in our community.
