Nanotechnology Summit Highlights Faculty Research

When:  Thursday, April 12, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Where: Suffolk Conference Center, Wannalancit Mills, 650 Suffolk St., Lowell
What:    Members of the community are invited to meet UML's nanotechnology faculty and hear about the cutting-edge research that is defining the industry. Learn through informational presentations, group discussions and one-on-one interactions.  Incoming Chancellor Marty Meehan will be attending the summit at 4 p.m.

Looking Behind the Veil ߝ Islamic Awareness Month

When:  Thursday, April 12, 6:30 p.m.
Where:  Fox Hall, Multipurpose Room, Pawtucket St., East Campus, Lowell
What:  The UMass Lowell Muslim Student Association presents Islamic Awareness Month April 2007: A Journey Through Islam. A number of events and activities are planned throughout the month of April including a discussion titled “Looking Behind the Veil,” which will explore women’s role in Islam.  Come break the stereotypes of one of the most important topics in Islam.

Conversation Dinner:  Disabled Students in the Classroom

When: Thursday, April 12, 3:30 p.m.
Where: Alumni Hall, University Avenue, North Campus, Lowell
What:  Salome Heyward, manager of Disability Services at MIT, speaks about awareness of the challenges faced by disabled students in the classroom.  This event is sponsored by the Council for Diversity and Pluralism and the Council for Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with the division of Student Affairs.

Sustainable Materials Conference ߝ Green Plastics Manufacturing

When:   Tuesday, April 17 and Wednesday, April 18
Where:  Wannalancit Mills, 650 Suffolk St., Lowell
What:    Breakthrough advances in bio-based polymers are helping companies manufacture real-world plastic products from sustainable, biodegradable materials that minimize environmental concerns associated with plastic products.  Join industry leaders from around the world for this conference on the latest developments in green plastics manufacturing.

History of Muslims in America  ߝ Islamic Awareness Month

When: Thursday, April 19, 6:30 p.m.
Where: Coburn Hall, Room 205, 850 Broadway Street, South Campus, Lowell
What: The UMass Lowell Muslim Student Association presents Islamic Awareness Month April 2007: A Journey Through Islam. A number of events and activities are planned throughout the month of April. 

Join members of the campus community for this event which will feature guest speaker Imam Siraj Wahaj. As a convert, he is a supporter of Islamic causes in America and the current Imam of the Mosque in Brooklyn, NY.  He also became the first Muslim to give the opening prayer at the U.S. House of Representatives.

Invention to Venture (I2V) Workshop

When:   Friday, April 20, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where:   Wannalancit Mills, 600 Suffolk St., MIL Conference Room, First Floor
What:  The third-annual Invention to Venture workshop, hosted by UMass Lowell.  The workshop is an introduction to the process and practice of technology entrepreneurship with a focus on women in technology. Invention to Venture teaches technology entrepreneurship basics, helps build networks, and provides a framework for moving ideas forward. Cost: $10 students, $35 faculty, $50 Merrimack Valley Venture Forum (MVVF) and WEST members, and $75 general admission.
