Discovery Series Presents Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka

02/27/2006

LOWELL ߝ The UML Center for the Arts will present Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka on Sunday, March 12, as part of the Discovery Series.  This family musical, based on the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, is produced by the Kennedy Center in Washington D. C.  There will be two performances at 2 and 4 p.m. at UMass Lowell’s Durgin Hall, 35 Wilder Street, Lowell.

The one-hour performance is appropriate for children ages 6 - 12. Tickets are $12 per person. A group rate of $10 per person is available for groups of 10 or more ordering tickets in advance.  (Box Office Phone:  (978) 934-4444.)

Watch. Listen. Think. Imagine!  In this new musical play, Willy Wonka, the audience is invited to “Come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination!”  With the audience’s imagination and energy as key ingredients, the cast builds the set, shifts scenery, manipulates puppets and creates a chocolate factory right before their eyes.  Building up from a bare stage, a cast of 7 actors plays over 30 characters with the help of a highly imaginative puppet cast.

Join Willy Wonka and his band of Oompa Loompas as they lead Charlie, the spoiled-rotten Veruca Salt, gluttonous Augustus Gloop, gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde, and television junkie Mike Teevee through a labyrinth of lemon drops, life lessons and giggles galore.  All the memorable songs are included such as The Candy Man and I Want it Now! This show is a scrumptious musical theatre treat with plenty of surprises.

Durgin Concert Hall is handicapped-accessible and convenient; free parking is nearby.  The Discovery Series is sponsored by Nancy & Richard K. Donahue; Willy Wonka is co-sponsored by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company.  For more information, to request a brochure, or to order tickets by phone with Mastercard or Visa, call the Box Office at (978) 934-4444 between 10 AM ߝ 3 PM from Monday ߝ Friday.  Tickets may also be purchased at the door one hour prior to each performance.
