Coming Out, Coming Together Photojournalism on Exhibit at O’Leary
When: Tuesday, Oct. 11 through Monday, Oct. 17
Where: O’Leary Library, UML South, 66 Wilder St., Lowell
What: The O’Leary Library will showcase Windows On Our Community, an exhibit displaying the work of Craig Bailey and Marilyn Humphries, whose photojournalism has been featured in a variety of Boston-area publications. The exhibit contains photos from such events as the Matthew Shepard Candlelight Vigil at the State House, the North American Gay Volleyball Association Tournament, a Domestic Partnership Rally, and Boston’s Gay Pride celebrations.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Multi-Media Art Exhibit of Faculty Work
When: Opening Reception, 3 p.m., Oct. 19
Where: University Gallery, McGauvran Hall, UML South (reception and exhibit) Dugan Gallery, basement of Dugan Hall (exhibit)
What: Multi-media exhibit, featuring works by the UML Art Department full-time and adjunct faculty, including Jim Coates, Jehanne-Marie Gavarinin, Dan Gottsegen, Jim Jeffers, Hyun Ju Kim, Arno Rafael Minkkinen, Karen Roehr and Jim Veatch. The exhibit runs through Nov. 10.

Open House 2005: A Special Day for Prospective Students
When: 9 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 23
Where: Tsongas Arena, downtown Lowell
What: The annual UMass Lowell Open House is an opportunity for prospective students to explore academic opportunities, learn about campus life and understand the application and financial aid process. Workshops and exhibits fill the arena, and families can take buses to UML East, North and South for campus tours.

Energy Policies and Prospects in New England: How Regulators Think
When: Monday, Oct. 17 at noon
Where: Seminar Room 500M, O’Leary Library
UML South, 66 Wilder St., Lowell
What: The natural gas and electric companies have asked for major increases in prices as winter approaches. Rick Weston, director of the Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP), will shed light on the situation at a presentation followed by discussion. (RAP) is a non-profit organization, formed in 1992 by experienced utility regulators, that provides research and assistance to public officials and regulators on topics that include power sector reform, renewable resource development, and green pricing. RAP has worked with public utility regulators and energy officials in 45 states. Weston recently returned from a month advising on energy policy in China. Trained in Arabic, he has also worked as an energy and economic consultant in the Middle East.
