The chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Lowell was named President of the Year by a national organization earlier this month, officials said.
The Association of College Unions International announced that Marty Meehan was the award’s recipient during its annual conference in early April.
The association, which represents more than 500 colleges and universities in the country, cited his “commitment to the student experience on campus” by holding monthly open forums for students and building a $95 million facility on campus for student activities and programs.
“It is truly an honor,” Meehan said. “This award is truly one to be shared with everyone at the university, and particularly our Division of Student Affairs.”
Since Meehan became chancellor in 2007, the university’s enrollment has increased by 45 percent and the campus has opened eight new buildings, the school said.
Also honored by the association was the school’s dean of student affairs, Brenda Evans, who was given the Presidential Award for Distinguished Service.
