TAMPA, Fla. — “Meet the Press” host David Gregory says he plans to hold U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren’s “feet to the fire” when he moderates a University of Massachusetts Lowell/Boston Herald debate between the two Senate contenders.
Gregory, in an interview yesterday from his NBC broadcast booth at the Republican National Convention, said the Oct. 1 debate is a chance for Massachusetts voters, especially younger voters, to get a true measure of the candidates.
Gregory also said the debate will be closely watched outside Massachusetts because of its national importance.
“One of the things I think is important about this debate and about this race is how nationalized it’s become,” he said. “So much money has flowed into this race and these are two pretty well-known national figures by now who are debating, having a shadow debate really, of the presidential cycle.”
The hourlong debate, at UMass Lowell’s Tsongas Center, will be broadcast live by WHDH-TV (Ch. 7) and streamed live by bostonherald.com. The Associated Press is also partnering with the Herald to distribute a live stream of the debate to its members.
