Erik Jordan and Srilakshmi Kurmana of Lowell have been selected to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon.
Jordan and Kurmana are both UMass Lowell graduate students studying Solar Energy Engineering. They are among a group of UMass Lowell students collaborating with Architecture majors at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. The group is one of 20 collegiate teams worldwide and the only team from Massachusetts chosen for the prestigious competition.
The contest will be held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., in the fall of 2011. Over the course of the next year, the team's goal is to design an energy-efficient, solar-powered house that is affordable for the general consumer and no larger than 1,000 square feet.
