Keeping Christmas Alive for Vets

If it's the spirit of Christmas you seek, look no further than Tyngsboro and Bedford.

Last Thursday, the Lowell Spinners Holiday Caravan hit both towns, and I was invited along for the ride. It's a trip I won't soon forget.

We started at Tyngsboro Elementary School -- myself, Channel 25 meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz, sports-talk host Damon Amendolara, UMass Lowell hockey coach Blaise MacDonald and players T.J. Massie and Derek McCoy, Mrs. Massachusetts Jane Marshall and entourage, a pair of members of the Boston Celtics Dance Team, Emily Elizabeth from the Clifford the Big Red Dog series of children's books, and several Spinners and former Spinners staff, including former Manager Dick Berardino, General Manager Tim Bawmann and, of course, Dog Man.

There, during a raucous assembly in the auditorium (those kids can scream), we thanked the hundreds of kids who made Christmas cards for veterans at the Edith Nourse Rogers VA Hospital in Bedford. We even signed a few autographs. (Yes, even I had writer's cramp.)
