LOWELL -- UMass Lowell has been awarded a $1.8 million grant to conduct a new study to promote health and safety in the home-care industry.
The four-year grant come from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. It will be used to focus on research issues facing Massachusetts home-care nurses and aides, as well as develop education and training programs.
The university is partnering with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Occupational Health Surveillance Program, home-care agencies, labor unions and government agencies. Research will include an industry-wide survey, focus groups, one-on-one interviews and the development of training materials.
