UMass Board of Trustees Saves Hockey

See you at the Tsongas

The excitement is building. The UMass Board of Trustees voted on Thursday, June 21, to support keeping the UMass Lowell River Hawks in Division I Hockey East, setting off a drive to triple the number of season tickets sold to 2,500.

Incoming Chancellor Marty Meehan called upon the University community to show its own support of the hockey program by buying season tickets.

“The UMass Board of Trustees has given River Hawks hockey the vote of confidence it needs. And now I’m calling on our campus community, sports fans and area business leaders to lift our hockey program to the rafters,” says Meehan. “My goal is to make UML Hockey Night at the Tsongas Arena the place to be from October to March.”

Some of the best college hockey teams in the country are coming to the Tsongas Arena to play the River Hawks. Five of the 16 teams in last year’s NCAA Tournament are in Hockey East, including Boston College and Maine. The season kicks off on Friday, Oct. 26, with the River Hawks taking on Alabama-Huntsville at 7 p.m.

UML is introducing the Center Ice Club, which includes cushioned center-ice seats with all regular season ticket benefits plus access to food and a cash bar in the Talon Club Room, a VIP parking pass and advanced notice and ticket access for all other Tsongas Arena events. All regular season ticket holders receive a 40 to 50 percent discount on regular season prices, plus a pre-season barbecue and holiday skate party. The Kids Club gets the youngest fans into the action and includes a hat, t-shirt and hockey clinics with UML players.
