Honors Program Sponsors Research Symposium
Student Event Features First Full Day of Posters, Panels
This year's Student Research Symposium featured posters, panels and a new keynote presentation.
The UML Honors Program sponsored the 11th Student Research Symposium on Tuesday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event, the first year being sponsored by the Honors Program and the first time that it was a full-day event. Poster presentations, representing a wide variety of student research projects, were on display in Cumnock Hall from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the first “Crossing the Great Divide” keynote presentation from 1 to 2 p.m. in O’Leary 222. This year’s keynote speakers, who presented “Artbotics! Art and Science Meet Downtown,” were Assoc. Prof. Holly Yanco and Asst. Prof. Fred Martin of the Computer Science Department and Asst. Prof. Hyun Ju Kim of the Art Department. This is also the first year that the symposium branched over to UML South. The humanities panel presentations, held in O’Leary Library from 2 to 5 p.m., featured topics such as an examination of fairy tales, social leadership, teaching writing in the community, historical perspectives and contemporary concepts and the representation of history in Lowell’s museums. For a full schedule of panels, visit the symposium website. For more information on the symposium, contact Doreen_Arcus@uml.edu. | |
