The Urban Village Arts Series celebrated the release of its first CD at the Revolving Museum from 7 to 9 p.m. on May 8.

The Urban Village Arts Series (UVAS) celebrated the release of its first CD, “The Best of UVAS, ’07-’08,” with a free party at the Revolving Museum from 7 to 9 p.m. on May 8.

Students from the Sound Recording Technology program recorded the live performances of UVAS artists from the last year, including poets, musicians, authors, singers and more. The double CD will be available for $10, with all the proceeds going to fund the next UVAS season.

The release party featured readings by Lowell poet Ryan Gallagher, and UVAS veteran performers Hot Day at the Zoo. Gallagher, the author of "Plum Smash and Other Flashbulbs," attended the Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. Two members of Hot Day at the Zoo have performed at UVAS in the past, and the entire band brought its urban bluegrass tunes to the release party. Guests were also invited to enjoy free food from a local restaurant.

The Urban Village Arts Series is a free, monthly event held in the National Park Visitor Center. Each performance features three artists from a variety of backgrounds. The program, sponsored by several organizations from UMass Lowell and the city of Lowell, was recently awarded the UMass President’s Award.
