While on sabbatical during the fall semester, Prof. Jim Coates of the Art Department conducted research at international exhibitions, including Documenta 12 in Kassel, Germany and the 52nd Venice Biennale.

He also participated in two exhibits celebrating the MacDowell Art Colony’s centennial, at Keene State College and the University of New Hampshire.

Coates completed “The Red Dirt Series,” which is being featured in a one-person exhibition at the Northwest Art Center at Minot State University in North Dakota. Selected works from this series will be shown at the Lamont Gallery Phillips Exeter Academy in March.
