Dial 8 for an outside line!
You won’t get out by dialing 9.
Things have changed. It’s really great –
To call outside, you dial 8.
Dial 8? You say
No way, no way!
Oh, yes, I must emphatically state
To call outside, you dial 8.
But what happened to dialing 9?
That’s what we’ve done since the start of time.
Times have changed, and so I state:
Dial 8, dial 8, dial 8, dial 8!
Over the summer, all campus telephones were updated and now require users to hit 8 on the keypad to get an off-campus telephone line. Remember to re-program fax machines, as well.
The Telecommunications and Networking group in Information Technology has changed telephone call systems in order to eliminate the high number of inadvertent 911 calls, all of which required follow-up by University Police. In the event of an emergency, 2911 and 911 will continue to work on campus.
The great minds of the Office of Public Affairs created a Dr. Seuss-like poem and Thing 8 to publicize the change to the campus community.
If you have dialing instructions in print, on the web or in any other form, please correct them to reflect the need to dial 8 for an outside line. If you have questions, please contact the HELP Desk at ext. 4357 (HELP).
