Baseball Lab Featured on Fox 25

Science of Bats and Balls Highlighted

Bat Lab on Fox Boston

As the Major League Baseball regular season heats up, the contribution of UMass Lowell’s Baseball Research Center to the sports has been attracting a lot of media attention. In addition to being featured in an ongoing baseball exhibit at Boston’s Museum of Science and in a new Discovery Channel TV episode that will air in October), the lab’s work was spotlighted in a recent Fox 25 News broadcast.

The nearly three-minute-long special report, which aired on June 19, showed Prof. James Sherwood and Patrick Drane explaining the lab’s facilities and test equipment, including the high-speed pneumatic cannons used to check the performance and durability of NCAA and Major League Baseball bats and balls.

The program also demonstrated baseball/bat collisions using super slow-motion videography. If you missed the show, you can view it at Fox Boston website.
