‘Future of Work in Massachusetts’ Published

Paula Rayman
Prof. Paula Rayman was one of five professors whose work has been published by the University of Massachusetts Press. She is shown here with another of her published works.

The Future of Work in Massachusetts – a joint project of the Labor Centers at UMass Lowell, Amherst, Boston and Dartmouth – gathered findings from 12 commissioned pieces of original research at a statewide conference and published the papers in edited form through the University of Massachusetts Press.

The project includes the work of five UMass Lowell professors covering a wide range of subjects. Prof. Bob Forrrant of the Regional Economic and Social Development Department (RESD) analyzed deindustrialization in Greater Springfield; Profs. Sara Kuhn and Paula Rayman of RESD explored software and internet industry workers in Massachusetts; Prof. Bill Lazonick of the Center for Industrial Competitiveness examined transitions of a displaced high-tech labor force; and Charley Richardson of the Labor Extension Program studied call centers at the postal service.

The Future of Work project’s central goal is to advance the state of our knowledge about work and its future in Massachusetts. Copies of the book are listed for $24.95 at Amazon.com. More information is available at UMass website.
