Pro Football Novelists - 02/23 12:50 p.m.
Former professional football players turned novelists, Mark Bavaro and Peter Gent, will discuss their books, "Rough and Tumble" and "North Dallas Forty," respectively. Bavaro, a Winthrop native, played nine seasons at tight end in the NFL during the 1980s and 1990s. Gent played wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys for four seasons in the mid-1960s. "North Dallas Forty" is considered a sports classic and was made into a Hollywood film in 1979. Sponsored by Politics and Sports.

The Case of Lazarillo de Tormes and the Spanish Inquisition - 02/24 noon
The Life of Lazarillo de Tormes attracted the attention of powerful readers, printers, booksellers, and writers, as well as inquisitors and even one of the King's secretaries. However, in 1559 it was one of the first Castilian literary texts to be banned by the Spanish Inquisition. Reyes Coll-Tellechea, UMass Boston, helps us to unravel Lazarillo's complex history, and why the Inquisition permitted its renewed circulation in 1573.

Former Baltimore Raven's coach Brian Billick will discuss his new book, "More Than a Game: The Glorious Present and Uncertain Future of the NFL." Record and film producer and Lowell native Jim Sampas will host a CD listening session with the soundtrack recording from his new documentary film, “One Fast Move or I’m Gone,” about Kerouac’s novel “Big Sur.” The soundtrack songs are by Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) and Jay Farrar (Son Volt).
