Click on the following links to learn what else is going on at UMass Lowell: Convocation to be Highlight of Opening Week Activities Convocation to be Highlight of Opening Week Activities Comedy Central’s Mike Birbiglia Performs at UMass Lowell When: Friday, Sept. 5, 8 p.m. University Groups Sponsor Marc Broussard at Boarding House Park When: Friday, Sept. 12, 7:30 p.m. What: Louisiana-based bayou soul troubadour Marc Broussard comes to Lowell for a show that will likely sound familiar to many. Broussard recently made his Atlantic Records debut with “Must Be The Water,” which includes a title track that served as the theme for Turner Broadcasting’s on-air promotions of the 2008 NBA All-Star festivities. Broussard also performed his hit song “Home” as part of the kickoff to the weekend of NBA All-Star events before a nationwide audience on TNT. The Lowell Summer Music Series performance is sponsored by the UML Office of Student Activities and Multicultural Affairs and the Campus Activities Programming Association. Advance tickets are $15 for students (purchase at www.umltickets.com) and $21 for the general public at www.lowellsummermusic.org. Tickets at the gate are $25 for all. Seminar Series Focuses on Local, National Impact of Globalization When: Monday, Sept. 15, noon What: The Department Regional Economic and Social Development’s Center for Industrial Competitiveness kicks off its fall seminar series, “Globalization Challenges and Impacts: Local, Regional and National – Development, Industry and Labor,” with UMass Lowell Profs. Georges Grinstein and William Mass discussing collaborative visualization. The program includes a buffet lunch. Upcoming seminars, scheduled to be held weekly throughout the fall semester, will feature the mayors of Lowell and Fitchburg on urban revitalization, as well as speakers from around the country discussing the economics of cultural development, nanotechnology, women entrepreneurs, outsourcing, the stock market and “green” growth.
