Student presentations run from 10 a.m. to noon with the keynote presentation from 1 to 2p.m. Humanities panel presentations from 2 to 5 p.m. UMass Lowell, Council of Veterans Hold ‘An Evening with Lucinda Franks’ When: Tuesday, April 29, 7 p.m. What: Lucinda Franks – former staff writer for The New York Times, contributor to national publications and the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for national reporting – is the author of the book, “My Father’s Secret War,” in which she uses her journalistic skills to uncover her father’s past as a daring spy in World War II and tells the story of how she reconnects with him after many years of estrangement. She will hold a reading, discussion and book-signing at UMass Lowell that is free and open to the public. State Representative Murphy to Offer Insights to Students When: Friday, May 2, 10 a.m. What: Rep. Kevin Murphy, D-Lowell, will speak to the “Law and the Legal System” class about careers in law and government. Lowell attorney and UML professor Frank Talty teaches the political science class. Where: Coburn Hall, Room B-9, 850 Broadway St., UML South, Lowell Contact for Media: Renae Lias Claffey, Public Affairs, 978-934-3233 or Renae_Lias@uml.edu Presentation Focuses on Study of Children with ADHD When: Tuesday, May 6, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. What: “The Strengths of Children with ADHD: Long-Term Episodic Memory Abilities” will be presented by Jeffrey Skowroneck, recipient of the 2008 UMass Lowell Department of Psychology’s Distinguished Alumnus Award and assistant professor at the University of Tampa. Skowroneck’s talk will discuss his findings on ADHD as well as his path from studying at UMass Lowell to his current research. Where: O’Leary Hall, Room 222, UML South, 61 Wilder St., Lowell Contact for Media: Christine Gillette, Public Affairs, 978-934-2209 or Christine_Gillette@uml.edu One-Woman Play Celebrates Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month When: Tuesday, May 6, 4 to 5 p.m. What: UMass Lowell celebrates Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month with Christina Chan’s one-woman play, “Unbinding Our Lives,” which focuses on three real-life Chinese American women during the 1800s. They triumphed over child servitude, arranged marriages and other obstacles to lead independent lives. “Unbinding Our Lives” explores the effects of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 on Chinese women and the issue of human trafficking. Chan is a Boston-based actress and playwright.
