“29 Who Shine” Student and Faculty Mentor Honorees of UMass Lowell
Kimberly Chao, an Honors student of Manning School of Business, majored in Accounting and Finance, has been chosen as one of the “29 Who Shine,” a group of outstanding Massachusetts public college and university graduates honored by Governor Deval Patrick and the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education at the State House on May 8, 2014. Kimberly named Dr. Asil Oztekin of Operations and Information Systems department, as her most influential campus mentor. She selected him for this recognition because he played a pivotal role in Kimberly’s educational experience, including her academic achievements and contributions to the Commonwealth. Kimberly conducted her Honors thesis research entitled “Examining the Relationship between Health and Social Service Expenditures with Health Outcomes in Measuring the Performance of Healthcare Systems: A Cross-Country Comparison Approach” under the supervision of her Honors thesis adviser Dr. Asil Oztekin. Kimberly’s success and Dr. Oztekin’s role in supporting her was recognized at a luncheon held in the Great Hall of the State House immediately following student awards ceremony. They are one of the 29 students and 29 faculty mentors, one from each of our MA-based community colleges, state universities, and UMass campuses, who have been chosen to receive this recognition. Massachusetts Teachers Association joined the event in sponsoring the luncheon to salute this outstanding group of students and faculty.
