How to Search for Scores & Recordings

The Public Access Catalog allows you to specify different categories of materials by setting "Search Limits" and then searching with keywords. 

  1. Click on the Library Catalog (PAC) on the Library’s webpage.

  2. Choose the Boolean Keyword option.

  3. Click on “Set Your Search Limits” on the bottom of the screen.

  4. Under “Search Limits” options, go to “Type” and click on “Music Score or “Musical Recording."

  5.  Click on “Set Limits” on the bottom of the screen.
    Once limits are in place, search by composer’s name or specify what relationship you want between composer and type of music by typing in operators between words (use all caps, AND, OR, NOT): Beethoven AND symphonies.

  6. Click on the title of the score/recording you want from the list that appears.

  7. Make note of the call number (e.g. M1017.E4  Op.85, CD 1234, PH 3456)

  8. Library locations for scores are first floor Reference Department(M1, M2, M3), or fifth floor stacks(M4-M2000), recordings are available at the Circulation's Reserve area on the first floor.
