Requesting a Book or Article from Another LibraryStudents, faculty and staff at UMass Lowell may request that the library attempt to borrow books or articles not in our collection from another library. Unfortunately, we are unable to extend Interlibrary Loan privileges beyond these groups. For books, we suggest that you try one of our Virtual Catalogs first. The Virtual Catalogs are generally faster for books that traditional Interlibrary Loan. If the book is not available in the Virtual Catalog, or you need and article, please follow these steps: .
- Fill out an On-Line InterLibrary Loan Request Form for each item. Please fill this form out as completely as possible, as this speeds up the processing.
- Decide if you want the item(s) sent to Lydon (UML North) or O'Leary (UML South).
- Be sure to include your email address.
- Most books or articles requested through InterLibrary Loan arrive within 10 - 14 days. Some material may take longer and occasionally we may not be able to obtain the item at all due to its rarity.
- You will be notified when the item has arrived.
- Books can be picked up at the circulation desk of the library that was indicated on the request form.
- Articles will sent electronically, unless otherwise requested.
- Dissertations, Music Scores, Government Documents, Tests, Films, Videos, and Sound Recordings may be requested through InterLibrary Loan, but please be aware that many libraries are reluctant to lend such items.
- When requesting these types of items, use the Books form. Be sure you identify it as a Dissertation, Film, etc.
If you have any questions, call Access Services, O'Leary Library (978) 934-4572, or Access Services, Loan, Lydon Library (978) 934-3206.
