Eta Omega Honors Society

Membership/Induction Information

Induction of new members occurs in the Fall.
Undergraduate junior nursing students and graduate nursing students who meet the criteria for membership based on their overall Grade Point Averages following the Spring semester are sent invitations to apply. The deadline for receiving an application for membership is two weeks into the Fall semester to allow time for students to obtain endorsements from faculty. The Founder's Day Program with Business Meeting is held after the application deadline. The election of eligible candidates occurs at this Business Meeting. The Induction Ceremony is held in early November.
If you know nurses who are community leaders, we encourage you to nominate and sponsor these individuals.

Community Leader Category

The purpose is to recognize leadership, creative work, support for professional standards and commitment to scholarly nursing. This is the only category which does not have achievement in academic scholarship as a criterion, but rather emphasizes all other areas related to the purposes of Sigma Theta Tau International.

These are nurses with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree who have demonstrated marked achievement in nursing education, practice, research, administration or publication. The majority have degrees in nursing, but exception can be made for registered nurses with bachelor's degrees in other fields if achievement in nursing is outstanding. It is expected that generic graduates be given five years to develop as community leaders.

Community Leader Application Requirements

  • Candidate completes the Community Leader Membership Intent Form indicating area of achievement: education, practice, research, administration, publication or other. Describe most recent contributions to nursing in the area identified as area of achievement. Data and vitae are to be submitted to support selection criteria.
  • Candidate submits copies of documents to verify highest degrees.
  • Submit two letters of endorsement with the application. The letters are required to be from active members of Sigma Theta Tau International.
