BECOMING A TEACHER

If you want to become a teacher we offer a range of ways to achieve your goal.

  • Fast Track to Teaching and PLUS 1 M.Ed. degrees for UMass Lowell undergraduates.
  • M.Ed. degrees leading to elementary and secondary teacher initial licensure for full-time students.
  • Part-time M.Ed. programs at the secondary level for individuals who are already teaching on a preliminary license in the areas of science, mathematics, history or English.

Contact Vera Ossen for information.

UNDERGRADUATE MINOR in EDUCATION

Undergraduates may begin the minor in their sophomore or junior year.  The minor does not lead to teacher licensure but qualified candidates may continue into the M.Ed. program.

Contact Vera_Ossen for information.

ADVANCING YOUR TEACHING SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

We offer advanced M.Ed. and CAGS programs for Massachusetts teachers.  These degrees are approved for Teacher of Reading licensure or School Principal licensure in Massachusetts and are a blend of online and on-campus course work.

Contact Vera Ossen for information.

For out-of-state candidates we offer online advanced M.Ed. degrees and a CAGS degree that do not lead to licensure, but will further your own professional development.

Contact Michaela Wyman Colombo for information.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATES

Graduate Certificates are a great way to continue your graduate study as they do not require an extensive application.  Our two certificates are designed for those teachers who already hold an initial license and are seeking to apply to the Massachusetts DESE for a license as a Teacher of English Language Learners or Teacher of Children with Moderate Disabilities.

Contact Vera Ossen for information.

DOCTORAL PROGRAMS

At the doctoral level, we have three research-focused Ed.D. programs in Leadership in Schooling, Mathematics and Science Education, and Language Arts and Literacy.
