A Message from the Dean

Welcome to the Graduate School of Education (GSE) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. To those of you visiting our website for the first time to gather information about our programs, I do hope that you will take time to read about our history. From our founding in 1894 as a State Normal School, we have evolved to an all-graduate college, encompassing two flourishing centers – the Tsongas Industrial History Center (TIHC), a collaborative venture with the National Park Service, and the Office of School University Partnerships (OSUP). Both centers act as conduits for our work with regional schools and with faculty throughout the university. GSE faculty and staff are committed to working collaboratively with schools when designing and delivering professional development opportunities, sharing research and influencing state and national policy. 

The Graduate School of Education offers initial and advanced master's, CAGS and doctoral degrees. For the past few years we have delivered some of our programs online, providing high-quality coursework with the flexibility that busy professionals need. Our online and on-campus programs are taught by the same experienced faculty. While our master's and CAGS degrees are practitioner-oriented, our three doctoral programs are designed to develop future leaders in education who have a thorough understanding of theory and practice and are able to conduct original research into topics of importance to the field.
