PROGRAM OFFERINGS Students participating in the College Prep Program attend academic classes in the areas of English, Math, Physical Science, Computers, and SAT Prep. These courses are designed to enhance students' academic skills by engaging them in a meaningful learning experience. Recognizing the unique learning styles of each student, the College Prep Program offers Academic Tutoring. This service is available to all students needing academic support. Tutoring is provided by peer mentors and/or University students. Senior students have the opportunity to reside at UMASS Lowell for three weeks during the summer program. Students participating in the residential program receive free room, board, and meals. The residential program provides students an opportunity to get involved in a great number of academic and extracurricular activities offered by the University. Through various activities, College Prep students participate in an Academic Career Awareness Program. Such activities include:
Students entering their senior year in high school have the opportunity of participating in the internship program. All of the senior students are placed in internships, work assignments and/or research apprentices. They are assigned to work in a specific university department or local business, with a faculty member or a business partner serving as their supervisor. The internship component gives students the chance to explore career interests. At the end of the internship, students are required to provide an oral presentation of their internship experience. Students have the opportunity to enhance their learning experience through a variety of extracurricular activities. These activities include:
Students who successfully complete the program, and are interested in attending UMASS Lowell, receive assistance by the Admissions and Student Financial Assistance offices at the University. College Prep is administered by the University of Massachusetts Lowell's Center for Field Services and Studies.
