Teaching Resources

The integration of teaching, research and service requires collaboration among many partners who have excellence in teaching at the core of their missions.  The following are useful resources to help promote excellence in teaching:

  • UML Libraries and Information Literacy
UML offers a wide range of library services for faculty and their students. Plus, you can access over 350 volumes of Faculty Development Center print resources through the library catalog.
  • Media Services
Faculty who choose to integrate other media into their coursework may contact Media Services.

Teaching with Online Tools:

There are two primary sources of getting online with your students.  The first is to use Blackboard, the university’s learning and course management system (LMS).  The second method is to establish a faculty web page through the Information Technologies Department.  Below are brief details for using each method.

Blackboard (formerly WebCT)
The UML Sloan-C Award-winning Continuing Studies, Corporate and Distance Education, Distance Faculty Development Team offers three levels of training for both day and evening faculty who wish to use Blackboard to intentionally change and increase the quality of their courses through the use of the learning management system.

Faculty Web Pages:
Follow the easy instructions to set up your own faculty website to feature your research, CV, syllabi and other materials.

Information Technology:
The IT department offers numerous services, computer support and training opportunities to support faculty.

Personal Response System (PRS) / Clickers:

To combat clicker proliferation and simplify faculty technical and pedagogical support, Interwrite PRS RF was chosen after many months of assessment and faculty input.  Clickers are being used extensively to evaluate student mastery of content and to identify concepts that are proving difficult for students to grasp.
