Biosketch

Wael Kamal, Ph.D. is the founding Director of Digital Media Program at UMass Lowell and is jointly a Lecturer in the Art Department. Kamal is a member of the Peace and Conflict Studies faculty group of UMass Lowell, he focuses on resolving conflict via communication (film/video). He is also an affiliated faculty with the UMass Lowell Middle East Center for Peace Development and Culture. Kamal is a member of Editorial Board for the Journal on Telecom and Digital Media (JTDM), Singapure.
 
Wael Kamal received his Ph.D. in Communication Studies from Georgia State University in 2006, M.A. in Cinematography from Academy of Arts, Egypt in 1999, B.A. in Cinematography from Academy of Arts, Egypt in 1993. Beside his solid cinematography background and hands-on-experience in the field of commercial video work and lighting working on TV sets and broadcasting stations (1994-2012), he has been the recipient of many photography awards and certificates of appreciation from both the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts Sector 1989-2000. Kamal exhibited his photography work internationally in Japan 1999 and Malta 1995. He is listed in two Egyptian National Encyclopedias 1994 & 2002.
