Department of English


The English Department is also affiliated with the UMass Lowell Center for Arts and Ideas. It was shaped by an advisory committee of faculty and staff organized as a part of the UMass Lowell 2020 Strategic Plan Project. It sponsors cultural activities, major lectures, and special talks at UMass Lowell and in the community.

Concord Festival of Authors Events at UMass Lowell

The Concord Festival of Authors programs are held in several venues in Concord, a town that revels in its historic and literary heritage, and in Lowell, a city whose history and diversity are the source of its vitality. The mission of the Foundation is to promote books and authors, to present the work of contemporary authors to the public, and to provide forums for authors to discuss their work. Associate Professor Diana Archibald is the Internship Coordinator for the English Department. Please contact her to discuss practicum placements, internships, and other experiential learning opportunities.


Off-Broadway Players

The Off-Broadway Players is the theater group at UMass Lowell. This semester, the group will be performing the rock musical Rent (March 31 - April 10, 2011) and Stoppard’s Rosencrantz And Guildenstein Are Dead (May 5 - 8, 2011).  We hope you’ll join us for both and encourage your students to attend!  Advance tickets will be on sale at the Student Information Center in McGauvran (South Campus) at least a week before each opening.
