About Us

Following the University’s mission to prepare our students to be “Work Ready, Life Ready, World Ready”, the Department of Cultural Studies, in the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell offers a B.A. in Modern Languages as well as several minors related to the study of various languages and/or their unique culture. Our curriculum specifically focuses on the relations, interactions and influences of the arts and humanities on one another, both in the context of a single linguistic or cultural community and in our multilingual and multicultural global world. With this goal in mind, the department of Cultural Studies strongly encourages students to Study Abroad for a year, a semester, a summer or a winter session, or to complete an internship abroad, as UMass Lowell established over 100 partnerships with institutions across the globe.
 Students majoring in Modern Languages (ML) may chose from three different options: 

  • French and Spanish 
  • Italian and Spanish 
  • Spanish
