Doctorates are offered in conjunction with the Mechanical Engineering Department (Doctor of Engineering) and the Chemistry Department (Ph.D. in Chemistry - Environmental Studies).
UMass Lowell’s CEE department currently consists of 10 full-time faculty encompassing the four specialty areas in Civil & Environmental Engineering. Almost all full-time faculty hold doctoral degrees. Several of the faculty have distinguished achievements in research and
professional service at both the national and international level; e.g., chairs and members of committees of the National Academy of Sciences, awardees of National
Most faculty are involved in externally funded research. Many research opportunities exist for students in each of the specialty areas - Environmental, Geotechnical, Structural and Transportation Engineering.
