Photovoltaic battery charging system for use in Pilco, Peru
Course: 22.527 Solar Systems Engineering
Semester: Spring 2008
Instructor: John Duffy
Partner: Village Empowerment Peru Project
To design this system, the students measured the photovoltaic modules that were to be used in Pilco, determined the performance of the modules, and estimated the photovoltaic output in Pilco. The team also determined the number of modules needed to charge a single battery in a day, selected a battery charge controller for the system, and performed an hourly simulation of the system during the worst solar month of the year. Besides the design the students also performed the installation of the system together with the villagers in Pilco, Peru.
