JETS Competitions

The College hosts the regional national competitions sponsored by JETS, the Junior Engineering Technical Society.

TEAMS

The College of Engineering became involved with JETS TEAM+S Competition in 1984.  The competition has grown from 12 teams to 28 teams (8 students per team) participating from 15-16 schools in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.

The teams that participated in the competition have placed in the top ten categories Regionally and Nationally.

Currently the College of Engineering  is hosting TEAM+S Competition and plans to host the NEDC Challenge in the coming year.

TESTS OF ENGINEERING APTITUDE, MATHEMATICS, AND SCIENCE (TEAMS+S)

This is a unique and challenging academic program enabling teams of high school students to learn team development and problem-solving skills, often with an engineering mentor , and then to participate in an open-book, open-discussion engineering problem competition.  Teams learn how the mathematics and science concepts they are learning in high school is applied to real-world problems.

NATIONAL ENGINEERING DESIGN CHALLENGE (NEDC)

This is an exciting high school engineering-based program in which teams of students design, build and demonstrate a working model of a new product.  NEDC challenges students to apply mathematics, science, and technology to a real-world engineering situation.

Through NEDC, students learn to use skills similar to those used by engineering team members, including: creative thinking, cooperative teamwork, higher order thinking skills, application of knowledge, and effective communication.
