Biosketch
Prior to beginning her teaching career, Shanna Thompson was the Human Resources Coordinator and Manager of Training and Development of a minority owned bank in the city of New Orleans. She began her teaching career as a high school mathematics teacher for a magnet high school in New Orleans. She also worked as a Mathematics Teaching Associate for the Classic Upward Bound Summer Program at the University of New Orleans. She then moved to San Francisco and continued teaching high school mathematics for another three years in a continuation high school, an alternative program for at-risk youth. Shanna has also served as a tutor of mathematics and various other subjects for more than ten years.
Shanna is currently a student in the Leadership and Schooling Doctorate Program and the president of the Graduate Student Organization. She has worked on numerous research projects with the Graduate School of Education’s faculty and assisted with papers presented at several conferences including NERA, NEERO, and APS. She recently had a paper published in the Annual Colloquium Journal on Educational Research and Practice and has been honored as the Graduate School of Education’s 2009-2010 Outstanding Graduate Student. She is currently serving as a research assistant for a local literacy project.
