Joyce (Liakos) Colella ’77 dedicated many years of service to education before retiring in 2005, and has significantly influenced the growth of the Manning School of Business.

Biosketch

Joyce Colella ’77 has dedicated many years of service to education, as an elementary school teacher in Southern New Hampshire and most recently in Lowell before retiring in 2005. 

She and her husband Gerald “Jerry” ’78 met as students at the University of Lowell and have since provided tremendous support to the University, and particularly the Manning School of Business. They have generously given to the Manning School of Business Dean’s Discretionary and New Building Funds, the Manning School of Business Board of Advisors Endowment, the Honors Fellows Scholarship Fund and the UMass Lowell Fund. They also recently served as co-chairs of the Commencement Eve Host Committee. 

Colella was born and raised in Lowell and attended Lowell public schools. She received a degree in history and elementary education in 1977 from the University of Lowell, and then a master’s in education from Fitchburg State University in 1995. 

She and her husband reside in Seabrook, N.H., and Naples, Fla. and have a daughter, Acelyn, who is a graduate of the Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine, and a son, Anthony, who is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design.
