Department of Work Environment

Many types of financial aid are available for full-time students. Several sources of student aid are available in the Department. These are teaching assistantships (TAs), which involve assisting professors in teaching courses, research assistantships (RAs), which require the student to work on a research project, and NIOSH traineeships.

TAs and RAs are generally assigned in May or June for the following academic year; students interested in support should submit a written application to the Department by April 1 to ensure consideration. In general, students are selected for positions based on their qualifications, including courses taken, grades obtained and specific research interests.

Research Assistantships

Students are supported on research grants received by faculty members. Grants generally support doctoral students as they do doctoral research, although some master's degree students are supported. The number of such positions varies from year to year.

NIOSH Traineeships

The Department receives funds from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for traineeships. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible.
