Health Management and Policy Program

About the Health Management and Policy Program

The UMass Lowell Graduate Program in Health Management and Policy (HMP) is designed to produce health care managers and policy professionals with the knowledge and expertise essential to the delivery of high quality, cost-effective health services, as well as the design, analysis and evaluation of public health and private sector health policies. As part of the Department of Community Health and Sustainability, within the School of Health and Environment, the program focuses on strategies and methods that positively contribute to the improvement of health, particularly in areas of critical health needs and underserved populations.

This multidisciplinary program is firmly rooted in the latest health care practice, policy and research. The program integrates the values shared by dedicated public health and health care professionals, with a deep understanding of the unique characteristics and the management principles of public health policy and health care delivery, along with the rigorous methods required if students are to improve health and well-being in an increasingly complex environment. Competence with existing and emerging information and computer technologies is incorporated into all aspects of the program and we offer a special concentration in Health Informatics.

The Health Management and Policy Program offers master’s degrees with three alternative majors or concentrations:

For master's degree course requirements, check the UML Graduate Catalog.

In addition to Master's degree programs, UMass Lowell's Health Management and Policy Program offers graduate certificate programs in three areas:

A four course certificate program of study is available to individuals who are not interested in pursuing a master’s degree. The certificates are designed to help professionals take advantage of advanced studies beyond the bachelor’s degree and acquire advanced knowledge and skills. It gives other individuals the opportunity to explore graduate education without committing to a full course of study for a master’s degree. However, any courses completed in the certificate programs are applicable to a master’s degree. Students entering the certificate programs must only be a graduate with a bachelor’s degree.
