Educational Background

Professor Khan earned his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Karachi, and M.A., M.B.A. and Ph.D degrees from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Scholarly Interests

Professor Khan has published extensively in referred journals on a variety of topics, including productivity, resource allocation, inventory control, competitiveness in world trade, total quality management, and e-business.  Several of his research studies have appeared in international journals such as Material Flow, Zeitschrift fur operations Research, International Journal of Production Research, European Journal of Operational Research, and International Journal of Management.  His more recent research in the areas of total quality management and e-business has appeared in the International Journal of Management, the Journal of Electronic Commerce in Organizations and the International Journal of Information Technology and Decision Making.  Professor Khan has also published several book chapters the most recent of which is on evaluating the financial performance of e-business initiatives.  He regularly presents his research at professional association meetings and serves on several journal review boards.  Professor Khan has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Lowell Small Business Assistance Center and has provided consulting services to a variety of business organizations and educational institutions.

M. Riaz Khan is a professor of management in the department of Manufacturing/Management Information Systems Group. Professor Khan has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Lowell Small Business Assistance Center and has provided consulting services to a variety of business organizations and educational institutions.  He also has served as the Director of the College of Management’s Small Business Institute which offered assistance to the business community in the Merrimack Valley region and outside. 

Professor Khan is frequently invited to speak on television and at public forums and educational institutions on a variety of topics ranging from social justice to geo-politics.  He has regularly published articles in non-academic journals with international circulations aimed at improving race relations and understanding within and across various segments of society. 

Prior to joining UML, Professor Khan was on the faculty of University of Maryland.  He has also taught at Clark University and Boston University, and has been a visiting professor in Venezuela, Germany, England and Scotland.
