Accounting Department

The accounting program at UMass Lowell provides a strong foundation, whether the individual plans to pursue a career in public accounting, corporate accounting or graduate studies. The department offers accounting concentrations in both the undergraduate and graduate programs of the College of Management.

Accounting Program

If you are interested in a business career that will put you in a position of responsibility and leadership--in either a public accounting firm, corporation or non-profit organization--a management degree with a concentration in accounting is ideal.

This concentration provides:

• basic math, analytic and communication skills
• experience with the latest technology
• a solid background in accounting
• the opportunity to gain real experience in research, internships, and outreach projects conducted with employers across the region

Accounting graduates can choose from a variety of career opportunities, including chief financial officer, treasurer, controller and entrepreneur.

Course Work

Course work in your first two years will concentrate on mathematics, financial and managerial accounting, economics, statistics, and general education requirements. In your junior and senior years, you will move on to areas such as cost accounting, accounting information systems, advanced financial accounting, auditing and federal taxation.
